Hi! I am a veterinarian who is certified in veterinary acupuncture (and also compete in agility with my Weimaraner). If the veterinary acupuncturist you are seeing in trained in making a diagnosis using Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques - you don't need to know exactly what muscle group, tendon, etc... is the problem. TCM treats based on a whole patient approach with the goal of rebalancing energy, they do not approach disease from the same background that conventional practitioners do. However, if your acupuncturist is basically a conventional practitioner using a "cookbook" approach to acupuncture - they most certainly need to know what the injury is before being able to select appropriate points to treat I think both approaches can work.

Has your DVM looked for back or neck problems rather than focusing on the leg? Chiropractic may help. Have they taken stressed views of all the joints? Also, look at the rear limb on the opposite side. Unfortunately soft tissue injuries may not be readily visible on radiographs. Best wishes. Michelle M. Richardson, DVM
