AKC Junior Handler Program

The AKC Junior Handler program is for children eighteen years and younger. It differs from existing programs in other organizations in that they run the same courses with the adults. There isn't a separate class with different objectives, it's all the same.

The Junior needs a Junior Handler's number (see below) to receive recognition of their runs as a Junior. Without the number a qualifying run is still a qualifying run, but it isn't credited as a Junior run.

When the Juniors qualify on a course they complete a Junior Handler's Certification form and have it signed by the Judge of record. The Junior keeps the top copy and the yellow copy goes to the Trial Secy. to send with the marked catalog to AKC.

Juniors receive their own Newsletter from AKC, and titling awards. The Seniors compete in a yearly Essay Competition, and the winners are awarded scholarships to the secondary education institution of their choice. In 1999 the amount divided amongst the winners was $25,000. The 2000 Junior Handlers Scholarship fund is at $60,000!
