I call Banner "the original gamble chihuahua". He was the first chihuahua to get the Performance Gamblers title, and it only took him seven tries to get the five Q's! (I should have forseen this, as my instructor said a few weeks into beginner's agility class "well, Cindy, most dogs run faster TOWARD their owners...") Snooker, on the other hand is still not our thing--right now I need to keep the plans pretty straightforward since he will grab obstacles if it is taking "too long" to get somewhere, or there is a nice inviting jump not too far out of the way.
Banner has come a long way from the days when he would bolt out of the trial ring at first sight of a contact obstacle, or run around offering any other obstacle in order to avoid the table. He still goes off on his own sometimes but that can work to our advantage in gamblers, getting us more points than I planned!
Banner turned six on May 7, 2005, weighs five and a half pounds, and is 9 inches tall. He's marked exactly like a border collie. He has been getting steadily grayer since age two, out of sympathy for my husband's own premature graying, no doubt. When he's not doing agility he is introverted and calm, except during dinner time or "trick time". He enjoys being petted, but makes it clear that he is NOT a lap dog! He lives in Jacksonville, Florida but also gets to trial in cooler summer weather during annual trips to Petoskey, Michigan.
