"JJ" came to me from the Seminole County Animal Control at the age
of 6.5 months old, turned in by his "family". He was a gangly,
lots of energy 30# very red Golden Retriever.
I had decided he would be my "obedience" dog. Little did I know
what was in store for me with this guy. I took my pictures and sent them
off to the AKC to get his ILP number....and named him (VERY appropriately I
might add <G>) "Jumpin Jack Flashback".
The longer I had him, the more "glitches" showed up in him. He
disliked other dogs near him, hated kids and did NOT trust other people,
men mostly. Hmmm, makes ya wonder just what did happen in those
short 4 months someone owned him! :(
So my "competition" dog had alot to get over, but slowly we worked
through them.....not "solved" but at least tolerant and bearable.
He went on to get his CD with men judges (would have gone further had I not
gotten SO involved in agility after that), he completed his "JH"
and "WC" in the field being VERY, VERY gun shy and it taking us a year
to get "over" that! Then he went on to a GREAT agility career
being a VELCRO dog!
Oh the challenges of 30" jumps in USDAA and those darn gambles <G>.
He also had the privilege to be the first Golden in Florida to earn the AKC
"MX" title!
He was taken from me at the very young age of 7 years and in his prime by
Lymphoblastic Leukemia. So very unexpected and out of the blue...he had
just competed 4 weeks previous at an USDAA agility trial and "Q'd" in
5 out of his 6 Master runs!
I sure miss you buddy, but you are thought of daily and those lessons you've
taught me in those short 6.5 years I'll continue to use on not only my own dogs,
but those dogs of other people!
You were an AWESOME teacher though you knew not what you taught...and it was
done by having a not so golden beginning.
I'm thankful for the very GOLDEN ending that you DID have...you deserved it!
In the end that little THROW AWAY puppy finished his life being.......
