Hi - We are getting ready to install new lights in our agility field. We are considering installing High Pressure Sodium (yellow) lights or metal halide (white) lights. Anyone have any experience running dogs under yellow lights? Any comments on either of these lighting options? Ann Croft

I have both a types of lights in my yard.  The High Pressure sodium light is a photocell light attached to my barn.  I also have a 400w metal halide.  I have run my dog under both types of lights.  The dog does not have any problems running under yellow lights.  I find I do not see the dips (not to mention dog poop) in the lawn as well with the sodium lights as I do under the bright metal halide lights.  If cost is not a factor, I would go with the metal halide.

Since we are on the subject of agility field lights; has anyone tried the new Lights of America Fluorescent Yard Light  available at Home Depot?    The housing that encases the light looks similar to the High Pressure Sodium light that is affixed to my barn.  The light can be mounted either on a pole or a building.  Due to high winds in my area and the weight of the light fixture, I have to mount metal halides to 3-4" wide steel poles that are buried at least 3' in concrete.  What I like about the new fluorescent light is that it is very light weight, and can therefore be attached to a smaller, less expensive  galvanized steel pole.  It looks like the fluorescent light might be cheaper to install, and a lot cheaper to buy ($40 vs. $170). I bought a used light tower. It has 4 1000w metal halide lamps. It's a diesel generator, and uses 1/2 gal of fuel per hour. It's portable. No permits no trenches no concrete.
