Memoriam 9/17/91
- 12/26/03 Zak came into our lives as a very lively puppy with a funny little kink in the end of his tail. He developed into a constant companion who loved to participate in all types of dog activities. His philosophy was “what can I do to please you!”. When Zak started his training career, agility was in its infancy, so most of his young life was spent in the obedience ring. When I walked into the ring with him, I always knew what to expect. He was always “on” and ready to give it his all. He won multiple High In Trial (HIT) awards out of the Novice and Open Classes. Although he never earned the coveted 200 score, he consistently scored in the high 190’s. In 1994 we went to Canada for a five trial obedience event where he kicked butt! Zak won all five HIT awards and a Best In Trial award. I think they were ready for us to go back to the States! In 1995 he placed 5th in the Open Class at the Cycle Eastern Regional Obedience Competition and went on to place 7th at the National Dog Obedience Championships in Orlando, Florida. In 1995 Zak won the Open Class at the UKC Superdogs competition. That was a major accomplishment. Both of our smiling faces can be seen on the July-August 1995 issue of Bloodlines!! Zak also became my dancing partner. With the help of Laura Kincaid, Zak and I developed a freestyle routine to the music of “WipeOut” and “Wild Thing”. For those of you who knew him, the music was very appropriate. We were privileged to perform at the AKC Obedience Invitational and at the Cycle Regional Competition. Flyball was a passion for him. He was normally a quiet worker, except at Flyball tournaments. He voiced his enthusiasm along with the rest of the team. He was very instrumental in helping his sister, ABBEE (Yorkshire Terrier), earn enough points to finish her FDX title. He also became quite a crowd pleaser at the IKC flyball demonstrations in Chicago. Zak began his agility career in NCDA agility (now UKC). When AKC started their program, he was one of the first border collies in our area to enter competition. There are several judges and competitors out there who obtained their first BC because they were so impressed by Zak’s enthusiasm and love of the sport. Unfortunately, a torn cruciate ligament put him out of the ring for almost a year. He came back briefly to finish his AX title, only to blow out the other knee. After multiple surgeries, some not done quite as well as they should have been, he was permanently retired from all formal competition. The rest of his years Zak spent chasing Frisbees in the backyard and keeping me company around the house. He was my constant companion through many unpleasant hours of chemotherapy. For the past several years he spent most of his time laying at my feet, and keeping me company while I worked around the house. Words can not express how greatly he is missed!! Zak is survived by his greatest contributions to this world, his offspring; Bragg, Danny, Jack, Simon, Kilo, Jimsey, Billy, Jet, Tempo, and Genie. U-CDX

Genuine Dream NA Cancer was trying to make Zak’s last days very unpleasant, so Steve and I decided it was time to allow him to leave us with dignity. Zak will live on in our memories and through his offspring. Rest in peace, Zak, until we meet again. Rae and Steve |
